    Margaret Becker (Speaker)

    Margaret Becker is Director of the Disaster Recovery and Community Development at Legal Services NYC. She was formerly director of the Disaster Recovery Unit of Staten Island Legal Service (an office of Legal Services NYC), and, prior to that, director of its Homeowner Defense Project, which she founded in 2006 to represent low- and moderate-income homeowners at risk of foreclosure due to predatory mortgage lending. Prior to joining Legal Services NYC/Staten Island Legal Services, Ms. Becker represented farmworkers on employment and housing issues as a staff attorney with Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project and worked on homelessness prevention with Legal Action of Wisconsin. She has also worked in private practice in Wisconsin, where she practiced employment law and represented environmental organizations, municipal utilities, and an electric company opposed to radical deregulation of the electric industry. She has also served as an editor for the Journal of Poverty Law and Policy, published by the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law. Margaret is a 1992 graduate of Harvard Law School.

    Caridad Pozo (Speaker)

    Caridad Pozo is currently a Paralegal/Intake Officer with Housing Unit at Queens Legal Services, where she assists clients with New York City Housing Hearings, HRA one shot deals, SCRIE and DRIE applications, Rent Stabilized Overcharges and Lease Renewal Complaints, and Succession Rights. Ms. Pozo is a graduate of the College of New Rochelle and is pursuing a MS in Non-Profit Leadership from Fordham University. Ms. Pozo is also a certified Paralegal and Helpdesk Manager.
