Recognizing and Managing Vicarious Trauma, Stress, and Burnout in Legal Services

No CLE.

Anyone, who works intensively or repeatedly with clients with serious life issues or who have suffered trauma, is susceptible to vicarious trauma and burnout. Being exposed to trauma experienced by others can cause us to have our own symptoms of trauma, and can change the way we view our work and cope with our own lives. This is vicarious trauma, also known as secondary trauma or compassion fatigue. In this session, we’ll examine the effects of vicarious trauma, and we’ll also consider other stresses and conditions that can lead to burnout in legal services and how they might be affecting you, your work, and your relationships. By the end of the training, you’ll learn how to recognize the signs of vicarious trauma, and how to use various coping resources to allow you to reconnect with your purpose in doing this work.

The training is for all interested staff, but will be limited to 30 participants. Please register as soon as possible.
