Public Benefits Law for the Non-Public Benefits Practitioner

This training is an overview of the public benefits available to New York City residents and will cover eligibility requirements for many federal, state, and local benefits including food assistance, cash assistance, health care, child care, and housing. At the conclusion of this training, you’ll learn about various types of benefits, the differences between these benefits, what benefits clients are receiving, what benefits they should be receiving, and the eligibility requirements of these benefits. Come prepared to hear about and discuss the importance of public benefits in this interactive session!

    Tanya Wong (Speaker)

    Tanya E.M.Wong, Esq., is the Director of Government Benefits at the Legal Support Unit at Legal Services, NYC. Building on her background in human rights advocacy, Ms. Wong began practicing in this area in 1996, as a Staff Attorney at Harlem Legal Services, Inc., as New York City began implementation of the new immigration and work rules under welfare reform. Ms. Wong participates in many welfare trainings for Legal Services and various CBO's throughout NYC. She served on the Advisory Board of the Empowerment Project at Urban Justice Center from 1997-2003 and has served on the Board of Directors of Project FAIR from 2009 through present. Ms. Wong is a graduate of Harvard University and Northeastern University School of Law.
