 Reverse Mortgages: 2016 Update

With the recent uptick in reverse mortgage foreclosure filings, this session will provide advocates with a much-needed update on regulatory changes governing reverse mortgages (surviving spouse issues and repayment plan options), federal and NY-specific predicate notice requirements and defenses, and an update on New York case law impacting reverse mortgage foreclosures.

    Megan Freismuth (Speaker)

    Megan Freismuth is a senior staff attorney in the Homeowner Defense Project at Staten Island Legal Services. Megan represents homeowners in a variety of defensive and affirmative foreclosure-related actions in state and federal court, including good faith hearings under CPLR 3408, and has negotiated many successful settlements for her clients. Prior to joining SILS, Megan was a litigation associate at an AmLaw 100 law firm. Megan received her J.D., cum laude, from American University, Washington College of Law in 2008.

    Jennifer N. Levy (Speaker)

    Jennifer N. Levy is a Staff Attorney at The Legal Aid Society in Queens in the Foreclosure Prevention unit, where she litigates cases involving residential foreclosures, predatory lending, deed and mortgage fraud, and reverse mortgage foreclosures. Jennifer is admitted to practice law in New York State, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, New Jersey State, and the United States District Court of New Jersey. Jennifer is also an adjunct professor at Metropolitan College of New York in the Bronx. Jennifer received her J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 2010 and her B.A. from New York University in 2001.
